Two-page Week, Part 5 - Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker Product Challenge

••••••••••••••
Two-page Sketch #28

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the two-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

It is time again for our Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker Product Challenge!

In case you missed the product challenge details, Nikki Sivils provided a collection kit to each member of our Creative Team. Each had the choice between the four newest collections - Noah, Audrey, Exit Here, and Messages. Together with the May sketches we will show you how using the same products and even the same sketches can produce so many different results.

They are also featuring our sketches this month on the Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker blog! You'll definitely want to go check out how their talented team used the sketches from our two newest books!

Since it is Two-page Week, all of the projects posted today for the product challenge are based on the May two-page sketch.

Messages Collection

"Lukas' Happy Place" by Lynette Jacobs
Supply list - Cardstock: Bazzill; Printed paper: Nikki Sivils (Messages); Letter Stickers: American craft, Doodlebug; Other: Felt cut with Die cutter and gold stars

Variation #1: I used 3- 4x6 and 1-3x3 photo instead of the smaller photos.

Variation #2: I replaced the star border with flags.

Variation #3: I added a narrow strip of red stitched paper above the flags.

“My Mac Family” by Sue Althouse
Supplies - All my supplies are from the Nikki Sivils Messages collection, except the following: Alphabets: American Crafts, Bella Blvd.; Tools: Fiskars Star Punch, We Are Memory Keepers Sew Easy; Ribbon/Twine: We Are Memory Keepers floss; Other: buttons

I used the left-hand side of the sketch to create this layout about what I fondly refer to as "my Mac family", which includes an iMac, iPad, iPhone and iPod. And yes, I use every one of them regularly!

Variation #1 - Used the left-hand side of the sketch to create a one-page layout.

Variation #2 - Used slightly smaller photos.

Variation #3 - Used several patterned papers for the background layer.

Variation #4 - Added additional embellishments above and below the sketch.

Audrey Collection

"Grin and Bear It" by Ashley Horton
Supply list - Patterned Paper & Stickers: Nikki Sivils; Twine: My Mind's Eye; Brads: Bazzill; Buttons: Michael's; Thickers: American Crafts

Variation #1 - I changed the two smaller 2x2 photos at the bottom, to one 4x3 photo.

Variation #2 - I framed in the title in the journaling area, but didn't add a different piece of patterned paper over the background paper.

Variation #3 - I added a few fussy cut words from the Nikki Sivils patterned paper, beside the last photo on the right-hand page.

Exit Here Collection

"Snapshot of Nature" by Virginia Nebel
Supply list - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Nikki Sivils; Diecutting: Silhouette, Lifestyles

Variation #1 - I opted to use only the right side of the sketch to create a 12 x 12 page.

Variation #2 - I substituted the 2 x 2 photos for round journaling spots.

Variation #3 - Instead of the stars along the bottom I created a sub-title with banners.

"The Alley" by Suzanna Lee
Supply List - Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper, Die Cut Shapes, Stickers: Nikki Sivils; Buttons: Blumenthal, American Crafts; Twine: We R Memory Keepers, The Twinery; Letter Stickers: American Crafts; Misc: Stickles

Variation 1: Pictures: Instead of the two 6x4 pictures I used a 5x7. I added a picture to the left of that. Instead of the one of the 3x4 pictures, I used two 3x3's. This was all in the name of getting individual shots of each of the kids present and a group shot.

Variation 2: I liked the look of a piece of twine run along the top of the stripey strip. It made me think of the bumpers that the kids still need to bowl with.

Variation 3: Instead of stars, I used buttons. The buttons looked like bowling balls rolling down the lanes to me.

Variation 4: Because of the extra picture, I had to move the title and journaling.

 Noah Collection

"Some Good Old-Fashioned Relaxing" by Noey Hunt
Products used - Patterned papers: Nikki Sivils; Accents: Nikki Sivils; Letters: American Crafts (white), Nikki Sivils; Stamps: Close to My Heart; Tools: Cricut CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge (stars)

Variation 1: I combined two smaller photos into a 4x6 photo on the right page.

Variation 2: I replaced the 2x2 photos with accent blocks and patterned paper because I was all out of photos for this event. I also moved them to all be below the photos.

Variation 3: I moved the journaling up above the photos on the right page because my patterned paper on the left page was too busy to write on directly. And because I had a space to fill after moving the accent photos.

"Adorable is My Middle Name" by Jill Sarginson
Supplies Used - Patterned Paper: Nikki Sivils (Noah paper collection); Alpha: Nikki Sivils (Noah collection); Ink: Vibrance; Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Tools: Creative Memories star punch

Variations:

• I used one larger photo vs. two 4x6 photos.

• My three smaller photos are 2.5x2.5.

• I added a circle layer under the title to help bring in some of the other patterned paper.

  • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

"Bashful Jackson" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper, die cuts, alphabet stickers: Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker

I followed the sketch almost exactly with just three small variations.

Variation #1 - Instead of stars along the bottom, I used banner pieces.

Variation #2 - I added a large star embellishment about my title in place of the two smaller stars on the sketch.

Variation #3 - Since I had used one large embellishment in place of two smaller ones, I decided to add another small star and word piece to my layout.

Two-page Week, Part 3

••••••••••••••
Two-page Sketch #28

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the two-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

“Maple Grove Days Parade” by Jennifer Larson
Supply listCardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Crate Paper, American Crafts, Kesi' Art, Echo Park; Stickers: Studio Calico, Jenni Bowlin, Crate Paper; Twine: Stampin' Up!; Floss: DMC; Punches: EK Success; Gems: Queen & Co.; Other: Button, twine, machine thread, pen

Variation #1- I used photos I had on hand rather than printing them specially sized, so I had to adjust the layout of the photos a bit, especially on the right side.

Variation #2- I moved the journaling so that the letter stickers would be more visible.

Variation #3- Rather than hand stitching around an element on the bottom, I hand stitched a star near the title to draw attention to it.

"Table For Six" by Janette Kincaid

Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: BoBunny; Corrugated Alpha: Jillibean Soup; Letter Stickers: Making Memories, Cosmo Cricket; Corrugated arrow: Prima; Red Hemp String: Martha Stewart; Floss: DMC; Journal Pen: Zig; Ink: Color Box; Paint: Craft Smart; Punches: Marvy, Stampin’ Up; Adhesive: Glue Arts, Helmar; Unknown: buttons, brads, mesh, foamcore, sanding block

Part of me wonders if I should have used a coloured cardstock rather than the white for the background of this layout but when I tried a handful of coordinates, it didn’t feel as ‘right’ as the white. I light how light and airy the layout feels.

Variation #1 - I changed up the sizes and orientation of the photos on the right side page and used a total of four rather than the six the sketch called for.

Variation #2 – I used a torn notebook edge punch on the thin horizontal strips of paper, adding a mirrored strip on the bottom.

Variation #3 – I used the same patterned paper for the background on both pages.

Variation #4 – Rather than taking the time to stitch on my layout, I used a thicker hemp string to add a splash of colour.

Variation #5 – I added more circles and less stars to the bottom of the layout, the varied size of circles adds interest and the buttons, brads and pop dotted paper adds depth.

Variation #6 – I flipped the location of the title and the journaling.

Variation #7 – I added the corrugated arrow for additional detail and interest.

"In Your Face Chewy" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: October Afternoon; Stickers, die cuts, and flashcard: October Afternoon; Letter stickers: October Afternoon; Corrugated alphabet: Jillibean Soup; Heart punch: Martha Stewart

Variation #1 - The photos I really wanted to use with this sketch didn't allow much room for cropping for the photos on the right page. I didn't want to miss out on using my favorite pictures so I included an extra photo on the left page.

Variation #2 - On the right page I used another 4 x 6" photo in place of two of the 3 x 4" photos.

Variation #3 - I kept two of the 2 x 2" photos the same size but had to opt for a larger 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" photo for one of them. It just wasn't possible to crop it down any smaller.

Variation #4 - I didn't use stars along the bottom. In fact I didn't include anything along the bottom other than a scallop strip. I also included an "ABC" strip along the top.

Variation #5 - I used hearts, flags/banners, a flashcard and a dog sticker in place of the star embellishments on the sketch.

Here's a closer look at some details:

Variation 1 - Changed direction.

Variation 2 - Left off circles and opted for just a couple of strips.

Variation 3 - Used index card as my message and added a few die cuts to it.

Variation 4 - Added a background layer.

"You Make Me Smile" card by Melissa Bell
Supplies - Patterned Paper: We R Memory Keepers; Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink; Circle Cutter: Creative Memories; Other: Pop dots

Variation #1 - Instead of doing stitching down the vertical strip I just used lined patterned paper.

Variation #2 - Since my message was scalloped I decided to omit the flower.

Variation #3 - I used 2.5" circles instead of the 2" circles

"Hello" card by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Lily Bee Design; Flower sticker: Lily Bee Design; Alphabet stickers: Lily Bee Design

Variation #1 - I used smaller circles and I used a smaller strip behind the circles.

Variation #2 - Instead of having my message on the rectangle, I just placed mine directly onto the card.

Add-on Week, Part 2

••••••••••••••••
Add-on Sketch #16

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the add-on sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Smile" pinwheel display by Allison Davis
Supplies - Patterned paper: My Mind's Eye; Brads: My Mind's Eye; Buttons: My Mind's Eye; Banner stamp: My Mind's Eye; Alphabet stickers: My Mind's Eye; Memory Thread: DMC; Twine: My Mind's Eye; Butterfly punch: Martha Stewart; Other: oval bowl, paper shreds, wooden skewers, floral wire

I followed the sketch almost exactly to create a pinwheel decoration.

Variation #1 - I added some extra details with Memory Thread on the largest pinwheel.

I also added some hand stitching to a few of the pinwheels. I only added it on the pointed sides so you wouldn't see the backside of the stitching.

Variation #2 - I used a banner stamp and some twine to make a banner to hang between two of the pinwheels.

Two-page Week, Part 4

••••••••••••••••
Two-page Sketch #27

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the two-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Legendary Longhorns" by Penny Grimsley
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: October Afternoon; Alphabets: October Afternoon, Silhouette Die Cutting Machine; Embellishments: October Afternoon; Punches: Fiskars, Stampin' Up; Twine: Stampin' Up; Fonts: Western Swagger

Variation #1 - I changed the photo blocks to all 4x6 and rearranged their placement.

Variation #2 - I added a cardstock mat underneath the papers to bring out the yellow.

Variation #3 - I stitched along the edges of the background paper for emphasis.

Variation #4 - I moved the title to the top.

Variation #5 - I changed the labeling areas to circle embellishments.

"Grandma Mary Lou" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Patterned paper: My Mind's Eye; Cardstock: Bazzill; Chipboard alphabet (grandma): American Crafts; Sticker alphabet (Mary Lou): October Afternoon; Embellishments: My Mind's Eye; Butterfly punch: Martha Stewart; Embroidery floss: DMC

Variation #1 - The biggest change I made to the sketch had to do with the papers. I tend to use small amounts of patterned paper (which is funny since I still insist on buying two of each sheet) so I decided to remove a few pieces. I kept two of the small 1/4" strips and the two large background pieces.

Variation #2 - I relied on the design in the bottom left corner of the patterned paper for my embellishments near the title.

I added a few extra pieces to accent the design on the paper and also some hand stitching to frame that whole piece.

Variation #3 - I changed the photos sizes a little to work with what I had. I didn't want to cover up the design on the left corner near the title so I decided not to add the 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" photo.

Since I removed the small photo on the left page, I used two 3 x 4" photos in place of the 5 x 3-1/2" photo on the right page.

I also used three wallet size photos (2-1/2 x 3-1/2") in place of the three 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" photos on the right page. I couldn't really crop those photos down without losing important pieces so I made it work with the full wallet size.

Variation #4 - Instead of the label stickers and flourish on the right page, I used three butterflies.

One-page Week, Part 1

••••••••••••••
One-page Sketch #19

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the one-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Awesome" by Christine Chain
Suppliespatterned paper: October Afternoon, Echo Park, My Mind’s Eye (Sweet Caroline), Cosmo Cricket; epoxy paper clip: My Mind’s Eye (Sweet Caroline); letters: American Crafts (Thickers), Authentique; chipboard accents: Bella Blvd; label sticker: Cosmo Cricket; interview questions: Cathy Zielske’s Story Guide Layered Template #1; ink: Tsukineko; other: embroidery floss

I decided to use a picture taken of my son on his 7th birthday and incorporate an interview with him for my journaling. The questions came from Cathy Zielske’s Story Guide Layered Template #1 available from Designer Digitals.

Variation #1 – I didn’t use anywhere near as many embellishments! I wanted this layout to be a bit more “clean and simple” since it’s about my son. Not that a layout about a boy can’t have embellishments, but I really liked how it looked without much extra.

Variation #2 – I used a few label and word stickers, plus a “7” (since this is when Brandon turned seven) in place of the flower/button embellishments.

Here's a closer look at the details:

"Summer Moments" by Jennifer Larson
Supply list - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: K'esi Art, Pebbles, Crate Paper, Jillibean Soup; Stickers: October Afternoon, K'esi Art, Glitz; Corrugated letters: Jillibean Soup; Ink: Jenni Bowlin; Buttons: Basic Grey (wood), Pebbles (green), unknown (orange)

Variation #1 - I had a bunch of small photos, more than for one page, so I stretched the sketch into a two-page 8.5x11 layout. Aside from that, I kept the design almost identical to the sketch.

  • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

“Lingering at the Falls” by Sue Althouse
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned Paper: My Mind's Eye (Follow Your Heart); Alphabet: American Crafts Thickers; Inks, Mists: Creative Memories (Brown Chalking Ink), Mister Huey's (Clay Mist); Tools: Fiskars Circle Punches, Nestabilities Large Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles; Ribbon/Twine: My Mind's Eye (Follow Your Heart); Buttons: My Mind's Eye (Follow Your Heart)

Any sketch with banners and the opportunity to use a variety of patterned paper is a winner in my book!

Variation #1 - Ran the title down onto the side of the photo.

Variation #2 - Used spray ink on the background.

Variation #3 - Added patterned paper strips on three edges of the cardstock.

  • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

"Tough Guy/Sweet Heart" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper, die cuts, stickers, alphabets: Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker; Ink: Colorbox

Variation #1 - I used less and smaller embellishments than suggested on the sketch with the exception of the one on the top left corner of the photo.
